Word of the Day: Doxological

Doxazo (Gr.) – “to glorify”
Doxa (Gr.) – “glory”
Doxology (Eng.) – “…an ascription of praise to God”
Doxological (Eng.) – Pertaining to God’s praise (my definition)

Some sample doxological passages:

  • Psalm 41:13, “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, From everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.”
  • Matthew 16:13 (traditional ending to the Lord’s Prayer): “For Yours is the Kingdom, and the power, and glory forever.”
  • 1 Timothy 1:17, “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”

    …and perhaps my favorite…

Romans 11:33-36,

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!  34 For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, OR WHO BECAME HIS COUNSELOR?  35 Or WHO HAS FIRST GIVEN TO HIM THAT IT MIGHT BE PAID BACK TO HIM AGAIN?  36 For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.

He is the Source (from), the Agent (through), and the Object (to) of all things in existence.  So yes, all glory belongs to Him forever.

Have a doxological day.  He’s worthy of it.
